New Phuket route (28 Feb 2011)
Strategic Airlines of Australia launched two new long haul routes to the island of Phuket (HKT) in Thailand in the last week. On 22 February, flights began from Melbourne and two days later, flights followed from Brisbane (BNE). New Phuket Route
Air Asia (1 Feb 2010)
Air Asia are the newest addition to the booming South East Asian budget airline sector. They offer flights routed through their Malaysian hub Kuala Lumpur LCCT (airport code KUL) from London Stansted to Melbourne, Perth and Brisbane Gold Coast (OOL) airports.
Using the Air Asia website each leg of the journey has to be booked seperately however allowing travellers to mix and match carriers for each leg and get the cheapest possible deal available. The downside however is a re-check in of baggage although the airline operates out of the main Mayalsian international hub airport so would not require an airport change.
